Days feel like weeks but weeks feel like days.. SO TRUE! I can’t believe how fast this week has flown by! At the end of each day as we reflect on the day one of us always says, “That was today?”
This week has been a really good week! I feel I have grown a lot by relying on the spiritual promptings I get. I’m starting to gain confidence in the things I know to be true and I’m truly enjoying the work.
This week we had two powerful lessons with Peggy. We taught her how to pray in the first lesson and she prayed for us! The second lesson really touched my heart. I taught my companion how to teach the restoration using cups, and we ended up using this demonstration in Peggy’s lesson. Peggy asked some really deep questions. One of them being why don’t women have the priesthood? I wasn’t even scared when this was asked! I knew exactly what to say, Sister Schmidt also added to my thoughts and it was truly perfect. Peggy began crying and said, ” I wish other people would take time to understand where this church is coming from. They have it all wrong!” It was special to see her stand up for our church and see her heart change. A really special moment for me happened at Peggy’s, she said ” You are a really good teacher. You should be very proud of yourself.” I can’t even tell all of you how much that means to me. Lastly, in Peggy’s lesson the spirit spoke very clear to me that it was time to ask her about baptism. I looked over and Sister Schmidt and we made eye contact. I nodded my head and she smiled at me. We both knew it! Through a scripture in 2 Nephi: 31 we asked her to be baptized. She said YES!…. but she isn’t going to give up smoking. We hope to continue to strengthen her testimony and teach her all the lessons so she has a desire to stop smoking. It was amazing to feel the spirit work through me and truly fill my mind with answers to her questions I would normally not feel comfortable answering.
Another lesson that really stands out from the week is a family named the Halls. They are an inactive family we are trying to reactivate. The mom pulled up a chair next to us while the rest of the family kind of did their own thing. While Sister Schmidt was distracting the 4 year old son, something one of our bishops told me stood out very clearly in my mind. He told us: be bold, ask the hard questions, you have the power to do so. This thought wouldn’t go away, so I asked Sister Hall two very deep questions. She answered them so honestly! I felt I needed to share a scripture I learned in the MTC and share a personal story with her. I shared 1 Nephi 11:17 and related it to how scared I was to begin a mission. Taking the 1st step is the hardest! I know this was the spirit working through me. It was my turn to listen as Sister Schmidt was helping me with the kids. This lesson went well. They committed to reading the BOM together as a family and possibly with us… and we are invited over for dinner tonight! In a ward meeting the Halls told the brothers who stopped by how much of an impact the sister missionaries had on them the night before. So special. The spirit is there for us!
Last big miracle I saw this week was a girl named Addie. We were asked by the ward to stop contacting them about a month ago. So we haven’t been going over or contacting them for awhile now. When we were planning our route I felt very strongly we needed to go to Addies house despite what the ward had said. We put her address in our route and began doing a lot of visits. When we were out doing visits it began to rain out of NOWHERE! We had to decide if we push through in the rain or we go home and call them. We decided to push through. So grateful we did. The last stop we made was Addies. She was out playing in her yard with her 2 friends. Yay! We had AMAZING contact with her. She said she wants us to come to YW with her and we also invited her other friends. It’s a really big deal that she likes us enough to want us to be at YW with her. We asked if we could come back and teach a lesson. Her mom said after spring break. Hopefully it works out!! Addie really loves the church and wants to learn more, and be baptized. We have to get the mom on bored and we are good to go! It was huge for the mom to see how happy she was with us and see how much she does want it. The next day in church the YW leader showed us a text addies mom sent her. It said,” Addie wants to go on treck if she is up to it. She also mentioned baptism to me. When life slowes down this is something she wants.” Wow! So glad we were able to further connect with Addie.
Most funny event of the week: Riding home from Addies house Sister Schmidt and I were side by side. There was plenty of room, we do it all the time( so we can talk). We’ll Sister Schmidt TOOK OUT A MAILBOX. I hear this loud noise and get thrown off my bike. In the process of hitting a mailbox she hit my bike and took me out Lol. Through a laughter/ panicked voice she said, ” Will you go check out the mailbox for me!?” We are both okay and so is the mailbox. Can’t believe she hit a mailbox lol.. she is definitely fired from riding a bike.
Another funny moment happened at this sweet old cupples house. The wife was fully active in our lesson but the husband sat in his chair, feet up and silent. When it was time to read a scripture the wife got out of her chair to turn on the light. When she did the husband WIDE eyed looked up at us with a bug yawn. Sister Schmidt said, Goodmorning( with energetic ring to it) . Apparently he was enjoying a good nap lol.
I got a ukele this week and I’m in love! Sister Schmidt is a good teacher. I really look forward to playing it. It is a good stress reliever! I keep telling her I am behind on journaling because I like to play it in our few moments of free time.
This week we were in a competition with the zone leaders. To make it more fun Sister Schmidt made this funny paper basically saying, You are going down! They have a car and we gave a bike. So they definitely had a HUGE advantage but we enjoyed being a little competitive. Sadly we still lost 🙁
One of our companionship goals was to do fun theme nights for fun after missionary hours. We did toddler night this week! The box my ukele came in was way oversized and gave us a perfect opportunity to turn it into a rocket ship! We enjoyed the night soaring into the galaxy . After we safely landed our ship we got out our chocolate milk and began our coloring adventure. We colored cute pictures and listened to primary music. Yall it’s never to late to have a little fun and use that imagination.
P-day was a blast! I don’t usually say that about p-days but today was perfect. We walked on this beautiful walking path called the green belt. We took lots of silly pictures and enjoyed God’s nature. The weather was perfect! We walked for a few hours, stopped along the way for a picnic and a ukele lesson. We probably looked crazy walking on this path just playing our ukeles and living in out own perfect world. Sometimes we just need to step out of the world, get some fresh air and enjoy the life we have been given.
