Hello from Parma everyone! This week has been BUSY but so GOOD! I am completely exausted!
To start off the week we had an awesome service opportunity in Caldwell! There is this huge orgaization called Salvation Army that helps out people in need. We helped do inventory and it was actually a lot of fun. I also got to know some other missionaries and that was nice too. I dont get to be around them very much anymore 🙂
Exchanges! This week I got to go on a REAL exange where I went to another sisters appartment! Its like a slumber party In Kuna we all lived in the same house so it wasn’t as fun. Sister Tucker and Sister Jex are my STLs now. Sister Tucker lives in Gunnison! I got to go with her to Fruitland for the exchange. It WAS so MUCH fun! Sister Tucker is so cute and such a good missionary. Her goal was to hand out 3 BOMs and I was determined to help her hit her goal. We knocked on some specific doors and we were not having any luck. I turned to her and said, “We need to stop at the next person we see and just talk to them.” She agreed. We only drove a block when we saw a lady standing on the sidewalk with her dog. I walked up to her and talked about her dog. She was SO nice! I introduced us and then gave her a BOM. She very happily accepted. Heavenly Father helped me through every step of that conversation! There is no way I could have done that on my own.
While I’m talking about the BOM let me share with you a not so smooth attempt. We were driving down the road when I felt we needed to stop at a field with workers sitting on the side of the road. There were maybe 10 of them resting for a bit. I got all the confidence I needed, came up with my approach and even grabbed a spanish BOM. In the back of my mind I was just praying one of of them spoke English well enough for me to start up a conversation. Well they didn’t speak ANY English and it was so awkward! Just picture me standing next to a big feild trying to talk to all these spanish speakers lol. We just laughed about it.
This week sister Turley and I were able to have some very spiritual moments. The first one was in the Addiction Recovery class. We have the opportunity to attend the Addiction Recovery class every week and share our testimonies with them. The spirit within those walls was so strong and powerful! Well, this one gentleman bore his testimony on missonaries. He said, “If it wasn’t for the missionaries I would be a different person.” He, through his tears, bore the strongest testimony on the power of change and that the missionaries were appart of that great change. Those moments are the moments I remember why I am a missionary. I am so greatful to be appart of such tender conversion stories and see the light of Christ work through them. The second moment this week was in a sweet old ladies house. She bore her testimony on the power of the Atonement and it was strong! She explained to us that she watched a four hour devotional on the Atonement and her life was forever changed! She reminded me of how importaint being truly grateful is. I know that the Atonement happeded for us because our Savior loves us.
HIGHLIGHT of the week! We found a little girl named Heather last week. Heather comes from a very inacive part member family. It was Gods timing that placed us in their path last week. This week we started teaching Heather and she wants to be baptized so bad! She is going to be baptized on July 3! It has been awesome teaching her and seeing the glow in her eyes this gospel really does bring! At Heathers house her moms friend walked into the kitchen and joined us kind of accidentally. Well, she had a lot of questions and we were able to tecah her too! We gave her a BOM and our number. God is so aware of all of his children 🙂
To finish off this crazy busy and fulfilling week, I got to talk in sacrament again, 3 times in 3 weeks. It seems to be a theme…. If they don’t have someone to speak the missionaries will do it. All jokes aside I was greatful for the chance to introduce myself to one of my wards. We also hit ALL of our area goals this week, which was a pretty big deal for us. It isn’t often that we can find a new friend to tecah and put someone on date in the same week 🙂
I love you all so much and am grateful for all of your prayers and love. I want to share a brief testimony that God really does qualify his people. There is no way I would have EVER talked to strangers so boldy and confidently without his help. There is no way I would have been able to remember scriputures and be comfortable sharing them on the side of the road. If we trust Him he Trusts us. It has been an eye opeing week for me and I have really grown so much. Remember God is aware of you and wants the best for fr you
Love Sister Howick

-Hops! Here I’m Parma there are miles and miles of hops, we don’t know what grow on the lol… but they are like telephone poles with ropes attached like a grid. Then the vines grow up them. So naturally we had to take pictures:)
